Don't cling to old technology

In the world of transportation and logistics, we see a clear shift taking place: the adoption of touchscreen Android systems. This movement is not new, but the speed at which Android combined with touch is making its appearance in warehouses has increased significantly in recent years. I foresee great opportunities for companies that capitalize on this trend in time.

Traditionally, the logistics industry has relied heavily on Windows-based systems.
Many companies cling to these technologies, often thinking, "After all, we're a Windows house." But in a world where technology advances at lightning speed, this attitude can hurt companies in the long run. The question I often ask clients is simple: Why cling to outdated technology when there are better, more cost-effective and user-friendly solutions available?

The biggest advantage of touchscreens - combined with Android - in warehouses is user-friendliness. The younger generation of employees, who have grown up with smartphones and tablets, feel much more at home in an environment where touchscreens are the norm.
The traditional combination of keyboard and mouse is in many cases inefficient and out of date. Touchscreen systems offer a solution here. They are intuitive, faster to use and reduce the risk of errors. In addition, we see that Android licensing costs are generally lower, which has a direct impact on operational costs.

Another important point is the ability to integrate and scale. Android offers companies the flexibility to integrate different applications and systems, significantly increasing operational efficiency within the warehouse walls. This is advantageous not only for large players, but also precisely for medium-sized companies that want to stand out in a competitive market.

Of course, we at Elo Touch Solutions understand that transitioning to a new system is not without its challenges. It takes time, training and adjustment. But the benefits far outweigh the temporary inconveniences. Companies that make the move now will benefit not only from lower costs and higher efficiency, but also from an improved work environment that is attractive to the younger, tech-savvy generation.

In short, the future of logistics warehouses lies in embracing new technologies such as touchscreens. Companies that seize this opportunity will not only better position themselves in the market, but also become an attractive employer for the new generation of employees. Especially in combination with Android, these systems are very strong because you can easily add them to an environment, where also PDAs, handheld computers and barcode scanners often already run on Android.

So it is only a matter of time before touchscreens combined with Android become the standard in any logistics environment. The question is not whether to make the switch, but when.
