NOE launches design competition during ConcreteExperience on Nov. 13

NOE Concrete Design and NOE Formwork Technology have been manufacturers and global suppliers of NOEplast textured mats for over fifty years. With the mats, many millions of square meters of concrete surface worldwide have been given their own visual appearance. Students attending the BetonExperience on Wednesday afternoon, November 13, at the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam now have the opportunity to add their own design to the successful NOEplast program.

NOE Concrete Design and NOE Formwork Technology are launching a special design competition for this purpose during the ConcreteExperience. Students can thereby design a new structure that could potentially be added to the NOEplast standard collection. The prerequisites for this will be announced at the booth and are also listed in the information bulletin and registration form available there. At the booth, students can also gain inspiration from examples of projects recently realized with NOEplast.

After the design submission closing date at the end of January, an expert jury will evaluate the submitted designs and determine a prize winner from them. The jury will be led by Erik Sandifort of Buro Tank, the designer who also designed the fish structure for the portal elements of the Hoekse Lijn. In mid-March 2020, the chairman of the jury will announce the prize winner during an Open House at NOE in Arkel. The winning design will then be implemented in consultation with the prize winner to then be included in the collection with the designer's name.

NOEplast

The collection of NOEplast standard structures has developed steadily over the past fifty years. In addition to our own designs, custom-made specials were regularly added to the collection in consultation with the designer. NOE still supplies the structures developed more than fifty years ago and still used today. This makes extensions to an existing design very easy - good proof of the quality and reliability that NOE stands for.

That said, the NOEplast collection moves with changing architectural styles. Whereas a few decades ago geometric patterns were often used in rigidly designed buildings, today the emphasis is more on nature, greenery and sustainability, so new structures often have a more natural, figurative character. Also, new techniques such as CNC milling have made realizing intricate patterns much easier.

New models are mostly created by NOE itself. This involves a wide range of in-house options but also cooperation with external parties engaged by NOE. The design is always leading and the technology merely an instrument to realize the design. The experience of the company proves its value in this process so that time after time the maximum result between design, budget and practical feasibility is achieved.
