Brigade Electronics introduces new vehicle safety system with artificial intelligence: CarEYE® Safety Angle assistant for blind spots

Brigade Electronics, a leading supplier of vehicle safety systems, has introduced a new vehicle safety system with artificial intelligence to the Dutch market.

CarEYE® Safety Angle from EYYES GmbH is a blind spot assistant that Brigade GmbH has been offering on the German market for more than a year and has been developed by its long-time partner Geier & Söhne Transportgesellschaft mbH was used on a trial basis. Geier & Söhne Transportgesellschaft mbH installed the device, which uses technology based on artificial intelligence (AI) to detect pedestrians, cyclists and objects, in one of its Mercedes Actros trucks.

The system's AI is set up to accurately evaluate images from vehicle-mounted cameras and can calculate the future movement trajectory of people and objects. Based on this data, the system gives the driver a reliable and accurate warning of a potential collision in real time.

Warnings are given either actively with an audible and an optical red signal when a person or object could be hit, or passively with a visual yellow warning, for example, when a person or object leaves the danger zone, drastically reducing false alerts.

CarEYE® also emerged as a convincing winner in the performance test of ADAC, in which it proved its optimal performance and surpassed similar vehicle safety systems on the market. ADAC cited the reliability that significantly reduces false alerts, the clear and understandable visual feedback for drivers and the speed with which the device detects people and objects as the main reasons why CarEYE® came in first place.

Huib Slijkhuis, CEO of Brigade Electronics BV, said:

"The accuracy of the AI used by CarEYE® makes false alerts extremely rare and provides drivers with absolute peace of mind that they can maneuver their vehicle extremely safely. The system can distinguish between cars, trucks, pedestrians, cyclists and static objects such as trees and traffic columns. And when it detects something in the detection area, it calculates the movement and expected direction, making it exceptionally reliable."

Features and benefits of the CarEYE Safety Angle assistant for blind spots:

  • Suitable for commercial vehicles, including buses, special vehicles and emergency service vehicles
  • Can be installed on existing vehicles
  • Use of artificial intelligence minimizes false positive warnings
  • Comprehensive monitoring of blind spots, detection area of up to 10 by 4 meters
  • Detects bicycles in the second row behind parked cars as specified by UNECE R151
  • Red and yellow warning strategy as specified by UNECE R151 (blind spot information system)
  • Fully operational at low light levels (2 to 20 lux ambient illumination) and difficult weather conditions
  • The system is activated when vehicles drive straight ahead, when a signal to turn right is activated, when it takes a turn or the right turn signal is turned on, or when the vehicle turns, but the signals are not activated
  • The system is available for left and right-hand drive vehicles
  • Objects in the danger zone are classified by type
  • Self-diagnostic function - the device reports whether it is operating or not
  • Software updates are available
  • Sustainably developed in Austria and Germany, with all quality certificates and with ADAC seal of approval

Huib adds:

"In 2020, 229 cyclists were killed in traffic accidents in the Netherlands. One in three of these accidents could have been prevented with an assistant that monitors the side of the vehicle, such as CarEYE®. This makes such technology a crucial tool to improve the safety of every road user and prevent fatalities."
