Linde radar system increases safety for reversing forklifts

Better protection for persons and objects

Linde Material Handling's new "Reverse Assist Radar" assistance system protects people and prevents damage to goods and infrastructure. It does this by recognizing moving and stationary objects at the rear of forklifts and stopping the trucks very quickly in the event of danger.

Helps prevent more than 50% of accidents

'More than half of all accidents involving material handling equipment occur when reversing', said Fabian Zimmermann, product manager for Safety Solutions at Linde MH. "The blind spot begins approximately at a viewing angle of more than 180 degrees, but it is already well below that objects behind the vehicle are only difficult to recognize. To avoid collisions with these objects, drivers can now rely on the Reverse Assist Radar, which takes into account both moving and static objects.

Automatic braking system

A major advantage of the radar system is its powerful braking capability in the event of an imminent collision. If an obstacle is detected, this safety option automatically brakes the forklift with a force of up to 3 m / s². This braking effect is calculated on the basis of lift height, travel speed, steering angle and distance to the obstacle, and is thus always adapted to the individual driving situation.

The Linde Reverse Assist Radar takes into account only obstacles in the defined path of travel. Goods or other objects that are, for example, in the racks on the left or right - and thus pose no collision risk - do not serve as triggers for the system. Unnecessary disruptions or interruptions are consequently avoided, thus maintaining productivity.

For now, this system is only available on new forklifts, but in the near future it will also be available for retrofitting.
