Volvo Trucks' iconic FH series gains a new family member: the Volvo FH Aero. With its aerodynamic design and innovative features, the Volvo FH Aero offers energy efficiency on a new level. It is available in four variants, including a biofuel and the award-winning electric version.
With improved aerodynamics and new technologies, such as Volvo's new Camera Monitor System, the new Volvo FH Aero can save up to 5 percent in energy consumption and emissions*.
"The new Volvo FH Aero is our most fuel-efficient truck ever, continuing to reduce CO2 emissions across our entire product range," said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. "This is a Volvo truck at its best: a safe, beautifully designed truck of superior quality for heavy-duty long-haul transport tasks, designed for the success of our customers."
Voted International Truck of the Year 2024, the Volvo FH Electric will also be offered in the new Aero version - an energy-efficient addition to Volvo's already extensive range of electric trucks. Furthermore, the Volvo FH16 will be the most powerful truck in the industry with an all-new, efficient 780hp engine for the toughest jobs.
Whichever powertrain customers choose - electric, gas or diesel - all variants of the new Volvo FH Aero will benefit from reduced energy consumption, increased range and a superior level of safety and driving experience.
The new Aero truck models will be introduced to the markets step by step during the period 2024-2025 in four versions: the Volvo FH Aero, FH Aero Electric, FH Aero on (Bio-) LNG and FH16 Aero.
The front of the Volvo FH Aero cab is 24 centimeters longer than that of the standard Volvo FH. This lengthening contributes significantly to a more aerodynamic truck cab. The better aerodynamics not only reduce fuel consumption but also improve driving stability in windy conditions.
Due to improved aerodynamics, the Volvo FH Aero Electric also has better free-running characteristics. This provides increased regeneration of energy to feed back to the battery during braking or downhill driving, so it can be used when needed on the next acceleration or uphill climb.
The modern new front of the Volvo FH Aero features a bold, large and easily recognizable Volvo Iron Mark - the largest in current times on a Volvo truck - and the Volvo Word Mark, clearly indicating that this is the latest model from Volvo Trucks.
A new advanced Camera Monitor System contributes greatly to both aerodynamics and safety. This new solution, which replaces traditional exterior mirrors, opens up the driver's field of vision, improving safety for both the driver and surrounding road users.
The camera system has a positive impact on the driver's visibility in rainy and dark conditions, as well as in direct sunlight and when driving in tunnels. When driving with a trailer, the camera system has an auto-panning function that follows the rotating trailer.
Other highlights, features and benefits of the new Volvo FH Aero include:
- Volvo's I-See technology has been refined to save energy and CO2 emissions, using a cloud-based topographic map to optimize driving and allow more driving time in cruise control mode, which can both save energy and allow more relaxed driving.
- Enhanced brakes with Volvo's patented low-friction brake pads improve braking performance while reducing energy consumption and emissions.
- Improved user-friendly infotainment system that can be personalized to individual needs.
- Improved sound system, available with six premium speakers, a new power amplifier and a subwoofer that add an extra dimension to the sound.
- A new built-in navigation system will be offered with improved maps tailored to truck-specific needs, with automatic map updates that allow efficient delivery of goods.
- Interior improvements also include an integrated microwave oven and USB-C ports.
- Volvo Trucks' My Business Apps offering has been introduced in more markets. This is a subscription-based service that allows customers to download business-related apps from various vendors and use them on the truck's sidedisplay, providing benefits in terms of deployment time and daily truck usage.
- The new Tire Monitoring Service gives fleet operators a complete view of the truck and trailer through Volvo Connect, reducing the risk of costs and breakdowns due to tire problems.
The Volvo FH will also continue to be offered with a standard, non-extended cab, depending on market needs.
*The actual fuel economy may vary and depends on many factors such as driving speed, use of cruise control, vehicle specification, vehicle loading, actual topography, driver experience, vehicle maintenance and weather conditions.
