Volvo introduces first-ever exclusively electric truck, optimized for cleaner and safer urban transportation

For the first time, Volvo Trucks is introducing a truck model developed solely with an electric drive system. With capacity for heavy loads and excellent driver visibility, the FM Low Entry is an electric truck optimized for safe and efficient driving in urban areas. 

As more and more cities strive to improve their urban environment by reducing emission levels, demand is rapidly increasing for trucks without exhaust emissions that can meet these new customer demands. 

The latest addition to Volvo Trucks' electric truck program - Volvo FM Low Entry - is a heavy-duty truck designed specifically for a variety of transportation tasks in urban areas. It is also the first model ever developed by Volvo that is only available with an electric drive system.

5-star Direct Vision rating

The low driving position provides the driver with excellent visibility and control of the surroundings. The FM Low Entry's good visibility has earned it a five-star rating in the Direct Vision standard which assesses heavy vehicles in London and takes effect in the fourth quarter of 2024. 

The Volvo FM Low Entry is very versatile and can be adapted to the specific requirements of different transport tasks, such as waste management, distribution and construction. 

The truck is based on Volvo's well-known FM model. The spacious cab is lowered and moved forward, and the low entry and flat floor make it easy to get in and out of the truck. These design features create an ergonomic, comfortable and efficient working environment for drivers in busy urban locations.

The new FM Low Entry will initially be sold in Europe, including Turkey, Australia and South Korea. Sales will begin in the first quarter of 2024 and production will start in the second quarter of 2024.

Eight models of electric trucks

With this new all-electric city truck, Volvo now has a total of eight models of electric trucks in its lineup. In 2019, Volvo Trucks became the first manufacturer worldwide to begin series production of heavy-duty electric trucks, and the company aims for 50% of Volvo's global new truck sales to be electric by 2030.  

Key features of the Volvo FM Low Entry:

  • The sight (with standard specification) meets the Transport for London 5-star Direct Vision standard. 
  • The truck is equipped with Volvo Dynamic Steering for effortless steering and reduced vibration.
  • There are three chair options available: Driver + 0, 1 or 3 passengers. The 3 passenger seats are placed in the back of the cab so they are not in the driver's view. This minimizes blind spots and provides excellent visibility. 
  • The many ergonomic features include a low entry, a flat floor and well-positioned entry handles For easy and safe exit from the cabin. 
  • The truck is available with the new advanced Camera Monitor System from Volvo. 
  • Available in two heights (standing): Sleeper Cabin (1575 mm) and extended/high sleeper (1945 mm).
  • Available axle configurations: 4×2, 6×2, 6×4, 8×2, 8×4 
  • Maximum permissible total weight: 19-32 tons 
  • Engine: 330 kW
  • Battery: 360 kWh (4 batteries)
  • Range: up to 200 km (range depends on various parameters, such as load, weight, driving style, driving cycle, topography, temperature, etc.).
    Charging: 250 kW (DC), 43 kW (AC)
  • Wheelbase: 3900-6000 mm
